By domestic flight from Praia (Santiago) to São Filipe (about 30 minutes) or by ferry from Praia. On the island, shared aluguer taxis and hire cars take you up to Chã das Caldeiras.

November to June is dry and clear – ideal for climbing the volcano. Nights in the caldera (1,700 m) are cool, days sunny and warm. The grape harvest in Chã das Caldeiras usually starts in July/August.
