Maio at a glance

Maio is Cape Verde's insider tip: kilometres of almost deserted sandy beaches, acacia forests, salt pans and an island life that is still completely unhurried. If you book a holiday rental on Maio you're not looking for entertainment but for peace – fishing boats on the beach of Vila do Maio (Porto Inglês) in the morning, fresh fish at lunch, and a sunset all to yourself in the evening.

Around the island, beaches like Ponta Preta, Praia Gonçalo and the bay of Santana line up one after another – and you rarely have to share them. Inland, Cape Verde's largest acacia forest and small villages like Calheta surprise visitors. Sea turtles nest on Maio too, from July to October. If you love seclusion, long walks and a true island feeling, you'll find your accommodation on Maio here – requested directly from the host.
