Boa Vista has an international airport (Aristides Pereira) with direct flights from Europe plus domestic connections from Sal and Santiago. Sal Rei is about 10 to 15 minutes from the airport.

Warm all year round (24–30 degrees). November to June is dry; December to March is windy and ideal for kitesurfing. Turtles nest from July to October, humpback whales pass by from February to May.

Dune walks in the Deserto de Viana, beach days at Praia de Santa Mónica or Praia de Chaves, turtle and whale watching with local guides, kitesurfing, quad tours and a visit to the Cabo Santa Maria shipwreck.
